CHARLIE ROBERTS WEB SITECaptain of Manchester United for eight years between 1905 and 1913, Charlie was the club's greatest captain, and most influential player. He took the side from the bankruptcy of Newton Heath to promotion in 1904-05, League Champions in 1907-08 and 1910-11, and to their first FA Cup Final and FA Cup victory in 1908-09.
Charlie also revitalised the defunct Players Football Association, becoming its first chairman in 1922. He fell out with authority throughout his career, placing the game, and its players, before the interests of the club, the FA and the football business at a time when corruption was rife, and the player's lot poor.
